Council follow-up: outcomes from the Retailer Coffee Morning

27th March 2026

Following the Chamber’s recent Retailer Coffee Morning, we’ve continued discussions with Northern Beaches Council to progress the key issues raised by local businesses and to help turn feedback into practical next steps.

Woolworths car park – DA information provided

Council has advised that the Woolworths development application DA2025/1417 was received in September 2025, publicly notified in mid-October, and subsequently approved. Council noted that no submissions were lodged in opposition during notification.

Council also advised that any appeal would generally need to be made within 28 days of determination and referred to the NSW Land and Environment Court. At this stage, Council has not found evidence that it retains ownership of any part of the car park.

The Chamber has asked Council whether they can confirm, with certainty, whether Council no longer owns any portion of the site.

Jolt EV charger outside Leisure’s – background and next steps

Council confirmed that consultation on the electric vehicle charging bays was undertaken in June 2021, with results available via Council’s Your Say page: https://yoursay.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/electric-vehicle-charging-bays-proposal

Council advised that 84% of respondents supported installation of the chargers and the Local Traffic Committee resolved to proceed.

For businesses seeking reconsideration of the decision, Council recommends raising the matter with the relevant ward councillor.

What happens next

The Chamber will continue to follow up on outstanding questions raised by retailers and will share updates as they come in. If you have specific examples (photos, access issues, customer impacts) relating to visibility, loading, parking, or foot traffic, please send them through—real-world evidence helps strengthen advocacy.

Warm regards
